CAP Website Evolving
Most of you have heard us talking about our plans for a new more interactive web site, and many of you have seen the new parts of the site in action. Late last week, we linked the three new Intranets together with our public Internet site. When you visit our web site now, you will find in the top right-hand corner a drop down menu that will take you to the three new Intranets.

· The CAP Sites Intranet will be used by the CAP Sites themselves to do reporting, collect useful resources and keep information on their site up-to-date.
· The Youth Intranet will be used by all Youth Initiative participants to correspond with each other and their program officers via their messageboard. Additionally, it contains numerous other resources necessary to fulfill their role as a CAP Youth Intern.
· The CAP Staff Intranet will be used exclusively by program staff at the Department of Education to monitor and maintain the CAP database, track site statistics and other relevant site information.

Each of these Intranets are password protected. Usernames and passwords will be assigned to the appropriate people by CAP staff as required. If you have any questions about which Intranet is right for you, or to obtain account information, please contact your program officer. As time goes on, more and more features will be added. Stay tuned!
First Expenditure Reports are Overdue!Back to Top
Many thanks to those of you who have submitted your first report. Public Library CAP Sites should note that their reports are being completed by the Provincial Information and Library Resources Board.

Very important reminder
- everyone who received Payment 1 of their 2003-2004 funding early this summer must submit an expenditure report in order to start the process to receive your next cheque. As per Section 7.0 “Reporting Requirements” of your Application/Agreement for Funding (2003/2004), Report 1 was due to be submitted no later than August 31, 2003. Reporting dates were determined to ensure that all funds are expended this fiscal year.

Report 1 must include the following: (1) a completed expenditure form (which lists all expenditures incurred from April 1, 2003; (2) copies of invoices and receipts for all purchases; and (3) copies of cancelled cheques (or bank statements) which correspond to each purchase. In addition, monthly statistics must be up-to-date as the final step in getting your next payment.

The expenditure form can be found in the Intranet or can be obtained by contacting your Program Officer.

If you are experiencing difficultly in spending your allocated funds or if you have significantly altered your original cash flow budget, please contact your program officer immediately. Please keep in mind that any change in your Cash Flow Report must be authorized in advance. Until Report 1 has been received and approved, you will not receive your next payment. So, please send us your report as soon as possible! Contact us if you require assistance.
CAP on the RoadBack to Top
CAP staff have been busy traveling the province this fall. As part of our new marketing campaign, CAP now has a colorful new booth. Recently, our CAP booth has been displayed at several conferences and trade shows throughout the province. Some of you may have seen Brian, Stefan or Kelli at the RuralEXPO which was held in Gander from September 25-27, 2003. This exhibition was attended by approximately 4,000 people! CAP staff had an opportunity to talk with the public about the Program and to advertise the services CAP sites have to offer.

From there it was off to the Northern Solutions Conference in West St. Modeste, Labrador from September 30-October 2, 2003. Kelli and Brian visited several CAP sites in the Labrador Straits region and then attended the conference which was hosted by SmartLabrador. The Community Access Program received several honorable mentions as conference presenters referenced both the Program and the CAP sites in their area throughout their presentations. The conference was attended by teachers, physicians, lawyers, local council representatives, business people, community development representatives and residents of Labrador who utilize videoconferencing technology to assist in their daily lives.

If there’s an event or conference happening in your area and you think CAP should attend, let your Program Officer know and we’ll make every effort to be there!

September StatisticsBack to Top
CAP needs your statistics! By now, you should have submitted stats for July, August and September. Remember, your stats are important to us. They help to show that convenient, affordable Internet access is important to people of this province. Additionally, by providing reliable data, you help us ensure that decision-makers have the information they need to decide on the merits of the program, and the future of CAP funding.
