Welcome to the CAP News!etter, a new feature that we plan on using to keep our CAP family informed of what is happening with the Community Access Program on both a national and provincial level. For the rest of the summer, we are going to send this out as a regular email every second week. Sometimes, we will have questions for you to respond to, other times, it will just be information on the latest happenings with the program. Our intention is to keep you more in the loop and to improve upon communications between our office and your CAP site.

This method of communication has proven to work well with our Youth Initiative and several other provinces have already adopted this model as a way of keeping their centres informed of CAP activities. We hope to make this an integral part of our communications with your CAP site.

By the fall, we hope to expand the scope to include success stories and profiles of your CAP sites. We always like to hear from you. So, if you have any ideas, suggestions or stories, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Have a great summer!

Brian Evans
Director
National CAP User Survey
Excellent job on the CAP Survey! Our province is leading the way nationwide in the uptake for this survey. A higher percentage of our centres have had patrons respond to the survey than any other province. In fact, only Ontario has produced more responses and they have over fifteen times as many centres as Newfoundland and Labrador!

Unfortunately, the implementation of the survey across the rest of the country has been slower than anticipated. Therefore, we are continuing the survey until the end of July. If you haven't already installed the survey at your centre, it is not too late to show Ottawa how important the Community Access Program is to the residents of your community.
2003/04 FundingBack to Top
We are pleased to say that funding for the 2003-2004 fiscal year has finally started flowing. If you have not already received your first payment (based on your cash flow projections from April to August) you should receive it shortly. Don't forget that you will need to submit an expenditure report at the end of August to account for the initial payment. If you have any questions about your funding please contact your program officer.
Youth InitiativeBack to Top
Currently, there are 40 youth interns working at various CAP sites throughout the Province. Thus far, they have proved to be very successful and we are keeping them busy testing out some new initiatives that we plan to roll out to all CAP sites before the fall is over.

For those centres wondering about the Fall roll-out of the Youth Initiative, we will be starting that process later this week, when we announce the successful centres and begin our search for qualified interns province-wide.
Expenditure Reports Due SoonBack to Top
You've heard us talk about the possibility of a CAP Conference for over a year now. We are currently in the planning stages for that conference to take place later this fall. More details will follow in the coming week. Keep an eye out for it, you won't want to miss your opportunity.
