CAP Day AnnouncementBack to Top
Our first CAP Day was such a success that we’ve decided to make it an annual event! Saturday, November 27th, 2004 has been designated as the 2nd Annual CAP Day.

We are asking CAP sites to participate in a province-wide open house to showcase the valuable services they provide. All sites are unique and this is a chance to show the people of the province what your CAP site has to offer.

Your CAP Day event is yours to create. You are limited only by your imagination. Host an open house, have an online scavenger hunt, invite a guest speaker, design a contest or give a demonstration. It’s up to you!

Choose a time convenient for your community and invite members of your community to drop by and check out your CAP site. We’ll help you attract people to your site by advertising CAP Day in newspapers around the province. Once again, anyone who visits a CAP site will be eligible to win great prizes by completing an online ballot. We will also be providing your CAP site with T-shirts, pens, water bottles and frisbees which may be used as promotional items for your CAP Day event.

Please complete the registration form and fax it to your Program Officer by October 29, 2004.

We encourage everyone to get involved with CAP Day. It’s a great way to celebrate CAP and the people who make it work.
Success Stories from the Coast of BaysBack to Top
St. Alban's

Melinda Walsh, the librarian who runs the CAP Site at the St. Alban's Public Library, is always paying attention to the topics her patrons are researching on the web in hopes of doing something interesting at her CAP Site. Occasionally, she will take one of those topics and hold a special theme night. Two of her more successful theme nights have revolved around sheet music and plastic canvas.

On "Sheet Music" night, aspiring guitar players get together to search the Internet for the chords of the latest songs they want to learn. "Plastic Canvas" night sees those hobbyists searching the Internet for the latest patterns and sharing creative ideas.

The key to holding your own theme night at your CAP Site is simple:

1. Determine your target audience (e.g. guitar players).
2. Schedule a time (e.g. Saturday afternoon).
3. Promote your event (e.g. posters, word of mouth)
4. Research the topic ahead of time and locate some web sites that fit your theme. (e.g. http://www.guitartabs.cc/home.php)

Suddenly, before you know it, you too will have a success story in your community.

Belleoram

When the Belleoram CAP Site decided to apply for a youth intern this summer, they had some tasks in mind that they wanted completed. However, they never dreamed what sort of success it would have in their small community. Within days of the hiring of Russell Bungay, the CAP Site began to experience a huge jump in the number of users. Suddenly, the CAP Site that was seeing 30-40 users per month was seeing over 300!

Russell's promotion of the program in the Belleoram area led to the first ever CyberCamps being held there; coverage in the local newspaper about the CAP Site; and, new volunteers were recruited to keep the CAP Site open on a regular basis to accommodate all the new users.

The CAP Youth Initiative helped revitalize CAP in Belleoram, and it can help your CAP Site too.
